COULD I BE LOW IN IRON?
Iron deficiency can make you feel tired, weak, fatigued, lethargic, dizzy, faint or breathless. It can lead to headaches, palpitations, poor concentration and chest pain. It can also cause pale skin, a sore, swollen tongue, or brittle hair and nails.

HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF I AM LOW IN IRON?
Iron deficiency can easily be diagnosed through a blood test that can be organised by your GP. It can be a sign of an underlying condition, therefore it is also important to identify the underlying cause.

HOW CAN I TREAT MY IRON DEFICIENCY?
There are many treatment options available for iron deficiency, including dietary sources, nutritional supplements, injections and intravenous (IV) infusions.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT IV IRON INFUSIONS?
IV infusions are ideal for those who do not tolerate or forget to take oral supplements, for those who cannot absorb iron through the gut, for those who need a rapid increase in iron levels, and for those who cannot meet the minimum daily dietary requirements. Speak to your GP about which option is best for you!

IS THERE A COST?
The iron itself must be purchased directly through the pharmacy with a doctor’s prescription. A separate private fee is payable to Your Padstow Doctors Plus on the day of your IV iron infusion which is partially rebated by Medicare through our Easyclaim EFTPOS facility if payment is made by EFTPOS/debit/credit card.

I AM NOT A PATIENT AT YOUR PADSTOW DOCTORS PLUS BUT CAN I STILL HAVE AN IRON INFUSION?
Of course! Your Padstow Doctors Plus welcomes New Patients. If you have already had a blood test showing that you are low in iron, please bring this along with you. You may also want to ask your doctor for a prescription for the iron so that you can pre-purchase it, and have it ready for your appointment. If you haven’t had these arranged, our Doctors would be more than happy to organise these for you.

Please note that all patients must be assessed regarding their symptoms, investigated for iron deficiency and any underlying causes, and assessed for suitability for an IV iron infusion prior to the treatment taking place.

CAN I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION?
If you feel an iron infusion would suit you, please feel free to contact Your Padstow Doctors Plus on (02) 90116709 for more information.
